Under the supervision of the Parks Supervisor, this role performs skilled maintenance work in maintaining the City’s parks’ irrigation systems and performs general parks maintenance. The successful candidate will exercise independent judgment in the scheduling and developing of tasks, working within established departmental standards and City rules and regulations. The position requires frequent work on weekends and evenings, as needed to support irrigation or scheduled City events.
This position is vital to the operation of our public spaces as it helps maintain daily operations of irrigation within our parks and streetscapes.
This Job Announcement is for one Irrigation Technician position, the candidate hired will begin in either level II (2 years irrigation experience) or level III (with 3 years irrigation experience.) The City will make the determination as to which level is offered.
Parks II - 2025 Hiring Range: $21.95 - $25.25 min 2 years professional irrigation experience
Parks III - 2025 Hiring Range: $25.61 - $29.45 min 3 years professional irrigation experience

- Troubleshoots and maintains a variety of irrigation systems throughout the City that could include but are not limited to municipal buildings, streetscapes, greenbelts, traffic islands, parks, enhanced native areas and athletic fields.
- Programs and operate computerized, central control irrigation system. To Include: ability to utilize tablet and computer diagnosing irrigation system problems. These tools will also be utilized for internal and external communications.
- Understand and adhere to water budgets and ET-based watering.
- Responsibly tracks, stocks, and purchases irrigation supplies. Assists in tracking, re-stocking, inventory of assigned vehicle and making purchases for general work duties and specific to irrigation supplies and repairs, while adhering to the City and department’s financial policies
- Operates and maintains irrigation pumps. Performs troubleshooting, new installation, adjustments, general preventative maintenance per pump manufacture.
- Ability to read irrigation drawings and specifications to perform construction maintenance/ repair and replacement of broken irrigation components.
- Test and repair backflow devices, until regulations change in March 2025.
- Operate tractors, pick-up trucks, and backhoes. Assist with routine maintenance and equipment repairs.
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and facilities.
- Performs Cemetery, Athletic Fields, and General Parks maintenance as assigned to include:
- Park maintenance
- Trash removal
- Event support
- Cemetery maintenance
- Snow Removal: duties include operation of assigned snow removal equipment including light duty truck, sanders, Polar Track, Ventrac, snow blowers, and shovels. Shift duty changes per weather event. Ability to adjust and report as scheduled including early arrival, after normal hours, and weekends.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Completion of a high school diploma or GED
- At least 2-3 years of full-time experience in the maintenance of irrigation systems and operation of equipment used for irrigation is required.
- Experience as lead worker or supervisor of seasonal staff is highly desirable.
- Equivalent combination of acceptable training, education and experience may be considered.
Special License, Registration, or Certificate Required:
- Ability to obtain within one year of hire, a Backflow Assembly Certification from the American Backflow Prevention Association (ABPA) and maintain for continued employment.
- State of Colorado Driver License in good standing with no major violations in the past three (3) years.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Candidates will be required to complete and pass a pre-placement physical, background investigation, and positive reference check prior to employment.
- Knowledge of occupational safety rules and protection.
- Knowledge of required departmental policies and procedures as well as City policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of the operation and routine maintenance of equipment and trucks.
- Knowledge of general landscaping techniques and maintenance.
- Skill in safe operation of equipment in rough, uneven, or slippery ground conditions.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with a wide variety of individuals including the public, coaches, volunteers, and city staff, using the athletic fields.
- Ability to understand oral and written instructions and to maintain accurate records and reports.
- Ability to perform strenuous work in a variety of outdoor weather conditions.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee uses hands and/or feet to perform manual tasks such as lifting and digging. The employee is constantly required to talk or hear; perform simple grasping; smell; and perform cervical motions such as flexion, extension, rotation, and side bending. The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk; use fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and read and speak and hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs., frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs., and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works outside near parks maintenance equipment and moving mechanical parts. The work is performed in outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to equipment vibration, fumes, airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock, and sharp objects. Travel by pickup truck is required to reach work sites. The noise level in the work environment is at times loud.
