Lovington Fire Department is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Firefighter/EMT. This critical role is responsible for responding to emergency calls, including fires, medical emergencies, rescues, and other related incidents. The successful candidate will provide fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical care to the citizens of Lovington, New Mexico and surrounding areas.
Responsibilities:
- Respond to fire and other emergency calls, including fires, medical emergencies, accidents, and rescues.
- Perform fire suppression activities, including operating hoses, nozzles, and pumps, and ventilating structures.
- Provide emergency medical care, including assessment, treatment, and transportation of patients.
- Operate and maintain fire apparatus and equipment, ensuring readiness for emergency response.
- Participate in fire prevention and public education programs.
- Conduct regular training drills and maintain a high level of proficiency in firefighting and EMT skills.
- Inspect and maintain fire department apparatus, equipment, and facilities.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records of incidents and activities.
- Adhere to all departmental policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Work collaboratively with other firefighters, EMTs, and other emergency personnel.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Work a 48/96 hour 6 day rotating shift schedule with 24 hour on call status twice a month.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Firefighter I and II certifications (or ability to obtain within 2 years.) Lovington Fire Department will provide this training if not already certified.
- Current and valid EMT certification (National Registry or State equivalent). The department will provide this training if not already certified.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Live within a 150 mile radius of the City of Lovington, and be subject to have a 30 minute response time during mandatory on-call days for 24 hours.
- Ability to pass a physical agility test, medical examination, and background check.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively under stressful and demanding conditions.
- Must be able to follow instructions and work independently as well as part of a team.
- Knowledge of firefighting techniques, equipment, and procedures.
- Knowledge of emergency medical procedures and protocols.
- Familiarity with local geography and street network is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Paramedic certification.
- Experience as a firefighter/EMT.
