Position Title: Deputy Court Clerk
Department: Court Administration
Location: Lowell District Court
Reports To: Judge and Chief Court Clerk
Job Summary:
The Deputy Court Clerk provides essential support to the court system by assisting in the management of court records, facilitating court proceedings, and ensuring the smooth operation of court functions. This position requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and effective communication abilities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Record Management:
- Maintain and organize court files and documents.
- Process incoming and outgoing case files.
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of court records.
2. Court Support:
- Assist in the preparation for court sessions, including setting up courtrooms and managing exhibits.
- Provide information to judges, attorneys, and the public regarding court procedures and schedules.
3. Customer Service:
- Respond to inquiries from the public, legal professionals, and court personnel.
- Assist individuals in completing forms and understanding court processes.
4. Data Entry and Reporting:
- Enter case information into the court's database accurately and promptly.
- Prepare reports as required by the Chief Court Clerk or judges.
5. Financial Responsibilities:
- Process fines, fees, and other payments.
- Maintain accurate records of financial transactions related to court cases.
6. Perform secondary duties as assigned
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Proficient in data entry and word processing
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities
- Previous office and legal administrative experience
- Familiarity with filing systems and clerical tasks
- Experience in cash handling and financial transactions
- Knowledge of legal drafting and litigation processes is a plus
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; two years of office experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Two years of court experience preferred.
- Effectively communicate with others orally and in writing. Bilingual abilities for reading, writing, and speaking fluent Spanish/English preferred.
- Ability to obtain certification with Arkansas District Court Clerks Association preferred.
- Proficient in using personal computers and related software programs. Ability to operate standard office equipment.
- Maintain physical demands of the job, including talking, hearing, moving, lifting up to 50 pounds, and standard vision requirements.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.24 - $17.07 per hour
