Summary
Operates and services trucks and light motorized equipment; does maintenance work on equipment. Also performs manual work in public facilities.
Essential Functions
- Drive light trucks to haul supplies and materials such as gravel, sand,dirt, and caliche;
- Operate tractors, sweepers, mowers, front-end loaders, backhoes, and other machines of comparable size and complexity;
- Maintain and service equipment, machines, and trucks;
- Assist with various other activities including mowing and edging grass, installing and maintaining sprinkler systems, and removing litter and debris;
- Repair damaged fences;
- Care and maintain color beds and install plant material;
- Direct trucks where to unload at the city landfill, weigh truck, and collect money for landfill charges; keep routine records;
- Assist in the preparation for funerals;
- Perform related duties as directed.
Qualifications
Completion of the tenth grade with an additional six months to one year of experience in operation and maintenance of light motorized equipment; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:

Valid Current Driver's License
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Operation and maintenance of motorized equipment typically used in construction or maintenance activities.
- Follow oral and written instructions;
- Perform maintenance on light equipment;
- Work cooperatively with others;
- Operate a spray gun and metal grinder;
- Communicate effectively with others.
Physical Requirements
- Continuously lift and carry up to 25 pounds
- Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Frequently stand and walk during a shift
- Frequently climb ladders, stairs and inclined surfaces
- Continuously bend and kneel
- Push and pull objects
- Continuously flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees
- Continuously rotate trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing
- Continuously reach above, at or below shoulder height
- Coordinate eye, hand and foot movement to operate vehicles
