Summary
Coordinates an interdepartmental construction plan review and permitting process; Regularly confers with the public, contractors, engineers and architects concerning matters pertaining to proposed construction projects; provides guidance and advice concerning procedural, regulatory and technical matters affecting private and public building construction projects; reviews construction documents for conformance to adopted codes and standards, prepares comprehensive written reports and issues building permits.
Essential Functions
- Serve as a contact for the public, contractors and design professionals;
- Serve as a liaison to other regulatory departments and agencies and coordinate an interdepartmental plan review process;
- Review and interpret complex technical information presented in construction plans, documents and shop drawings and determine conformance with established codes and standards;
- Communicate plan review results, compliance issues, and regulatory or procedural information effectively to customers of widely varied backgrounds and technical sophistication levels;
- Interface effectively with Department support staff and field inspection personnel with respect to administrative and technical project-related matters;
- Promote a positive public image and deliver exemplary customer service in a fast-[aced production environment;
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Model code organization certification as a Building Plan Examiner preferred. Completion of a bachelor degree in architecture, engineering, construction management or a related field, or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills:
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Municipal plan review and permitting procedures
- International Building and Residential Code requirements for construction
- General building design and construction
- The Texas Engineering and Architectural Practices Acts, as well as other Statues and State Administrative rules affecting the municipal building regulatory function
Ability to:
- Effectively perform all listed essential functions
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Organize, prioritize and multi-task efficiently
- Analyze a technical work problem, evaluated available alternatives, and make recommendations from among the available solutions
- Utilize standard office software
- Occasionally lift and carry up to 10 pounds
