Summary
Supervises a portion of the Planning Department, serves as a contact with the public and professionals regarding zoning, makes presentations to Zoning Board of Adjustment, Planning and Zoning Commission, and the City Council.
Essential Functions
- Serve as a public contact for those seeking information regarding the zoning cod and make final decisions of interpretation of the code;
- Supervises the staff and operations of some Planning Department personnel as assigned by the Director of Planning;
- Maintain primary responsibility for issuance of sign permits and alcoholic beverage permits;
- Serve as the assistant liaison to the Zoning Board of Adjustment, Planning and Zoning Commission, and the City Council;
- Prepare monthly comments regarding P&Z and ABA cases;
- Prepare Zoning Code changes for the Planning and Zoning Commission and the City Council;
- Perform other assigned duties as required.
Qualifications
Completion of a bachelor degree in Urban Planning or a Related Field. At least three years of supervisory experience (AICP certification preferred); or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills:
Valid current Driver's License
Prefer familiarity with Texas statutes governing land use
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Planning and zoning procedures and policies;
- Subdivision platting.
- Supervision and management techniques;
- Standard office software and presentation techniques;
- Prepare and maintain records and documentation;
- Communicate effectively with others, orally and in writing;
- Work effectively under pressure and time constraints;
- Organize, prioritize and produce results with given deadlines;
- Supervise and coordinate the work of support staff;
- Work cooperatively with the public, government agencies, other departments, and the City Council.
Frequently lift and carry up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Maintain the ability to:
- Frequently walk during the shift;
- Frequently stand during the shift;
- Frequently climbing stairs during the shift;
- Frequently rotate upper trunk to the left or right while sitting or standing;
- Hand, eye, and foot controls to operate a vehicle.
