Summary
Performs more difficult technical laboratory work by analyzing water, wastewater, and soil samples.
Essential Functions
- Perform more difficult chemical analysis of water or wastewater samples using a variety of lab equipment;
- Record results of analysis, note unusual test results, and perform additional tests if necessary to confirm results;
- Collect water or wastewater samples and prepares samples for analysis;
- Prepare reagents and standards needed for various laboratory analysis;
- Prepare containers for collection of samples;
- Perform supply inventory and purchasing;
- Assist chemist in operating computer control analytical instrumentation;
Perform related duties as required.
Qualifications
Two years college coursework in chemistry or a closely related field with an additional one to three years of laboratory experience; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following :
Class D Water Operator License
Valid Current Driver's License
Physical Exam Required
Water Treatment Lab - Requires Class D Water Operator license issued by Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) or ability to obtain license within one year of hire. Higher classification Surface Water or Distribution operator license issued by TCEQ is acceptable.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of :
Sampling techniques and equipment.
Ability to :
Communicate effectively with others.
Physical Requirements
Frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds
Frequently walk and stand during a shift
Occasionally bend during the shift
Push and pull objects in order to use pull carts
Place arms above, at or below shoulder height
Coordinate eye and hand movements
Occasionally rotate upper trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing
Place arms above, at or below shoulder height
Coordinate eye and hand movement to prepare solutions by measuring small amounts of chemicals
