Coordinates, assigns, leads, and follows up with assigned staff to complete daily routine Right of way maintenance tasks and incorporate horticulture cultural practices while completing projects. Determines the procedures that will be followed in completing the work. Plans work, determining necessary resources. Leads and trains multi-skilled workers and participates with them in the field in a team-based work environment. Acts as the safety responsible person on the job site.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.Leads, trains and participates in routine work of semi-skilled and unskilled workers in the completion of Right of way and Horticulture related tasks, such as tree planting, stump grinding, wood waste pickup;Coordinates and arranges materials and equipment necessary to accomplish tasks;Leads, organizes and prioritize daily work tasks;Performs all duties of Grounds Maintenance Technician IILeads and participates in the installation street trees installation;Leads and participates in Grounds cultural practices;Leads and participates in routine safety inspection and maintenance of equipment used to carry out tasks;Leads and trains staff in proper operation of 40-100 horsepower tractors, sickle bar / flail mower, Boom arm mowers, stump grinder and knuckle boom trucks;Reads and installs landscape plans,Independently make appropriate plant selections for replacements and new installations;Selects and participates in the application of pesticides;Uses blueprints, maps & manuals to perform work; interprets written & oral instructions;Uses computer to perform scheduling, documenting, work order entries and emails;Communicates effectively and courteously with customers, peers and othersEnsures safety practices are followed in the work group;Coordinates reporting of accidents and injuries to supervisor and appropriate safetystaff;Confronts and documents violation of Public Works and City policies and reports to supervisor;Supports all team leaders in accomplishing work by sharing equipment, expertise and resources;Monitors breaks and lunchtime to remain within guidelinesMaintains inventory of tools and equipment to prevent?loss;Maintains all tools and equipment to extend life expectancy;Maintain facilities and equipment in a neat manner and good repair;Identifies innovative, cost effective ways to do work;Receives and responds to internal and external customer needs in a timely manner and follows up for closure;Leads and participates in team activities, such as problem solving and planning;Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws;Displays professional demeanor and willingness to work;Trains others in technical skills and proper operation of associated equipment;Responds to emergencies, including snow removal and storm damage etc.Performs call duty as needed;Works various schedules as assigned;ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned.When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESDirectly leads employees in the operation of the Grounds Maintenance,?ensures that department /city policies and applicable laws are followed. ?Effectively handle multiple priorities, organizes workload and meets strict deadlines. ?Assists in recruiting and training of employees. ?Makes recommendations regarding performance and discipline of employees.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Possession of valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia and an acceptable driving record based on City criteria;Possession of Class B or A Commercial Driver's License (CDL);Relevant background checks must be completed and approved;Must have certificates of completion for IS100 and IS700 National Incident Management (NIMS) training;Possession of Commercial Pesticide Applicator license or the ability to obtain within one year;Ability to obtain VDOT Intermediate Work Zone Traffic Control training and flagger certification;Ability to obtain First Aid CPR certification;
