What are the responsibilities and job description for the Traffic Signal Electrician Trainee position at City of Lynchburg?
- Tests, installs, repairs and maintains highly complex electronic microprocessor type traffic controllers, conflict monitors, detector amplifiers, flashers, control switches, relays, vehicle look detectors, conduits, signal wire, signal heads, controller cabinets, support poles and related equipment on a scheduled or emergency basis;
- Utilizes various types of equipment to perform duties including using a bucket truck at a height of 15 - 40 feet;
- Detects, diagnoses and replaces defective electronic components;
- Inspects, cleans and replaces lenses and frayed wiring, elevates and aligns signal heads; • Checks coordination of the signal system and makes adjustments as required;
- Pours and finished concrete in connection with the installation of poles, paints poles and equipment;
- Maintains fiber optic cabling network to include splicing, termination and testing;
- Responds to emergency calls or unusual situations; participates in regularly scheduled on-call duty;
- Responds to city-wide emergencies, such as snow, floods and wind storms.
- Picks up and maintains parts/material inventory;
- Designs and builds special control assemblies;
- Performs general housekeeping duties at Traffic Maintenance facility and storage areas.
- Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned.
- When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery.
This position has no supervisory duties.QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) supplemented by college level courses in electrical theory and electronics, and considerable experience in the repair and maintenance of electrical systems or electronic control devices; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must be able to work in a bucket truck at heights of 15 - 40 feet to perform essential duties of Traffic Signal Electrician.
Possession of valid Driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia and an acceptable driving record according to City criteria; ability to obtain Commercial Driver’s License within 90 days of employment.
Ability to obtain VDOT flagger certification card within 30 days of employment.
Ability to obtain Intermediate Work Zone Safety and Level 1 Traffic Signal certifications within one year of employment.
Ability to obtain IMSA Level 2 Traffic Signal certifications within 3 years of employment.
Must successfully complete IS 100 and IS 700 National Incident Management (NIMS) training, within 90 days of employment.
May also be required to complete higher level of NIMS training as determined appropriate for the position.
