Summary
The City of Lynnwood is seeking a positive, self-starting, proactive, wastewater Lead to join our Utilities team. The main function of this position is to inspect, maintain, clean and repair the City of Lynnwood's wastewater system and components while backing up the water utility department on an as needed basis. Daily functions of this job will include using jet trucks, vactors, the TV van, specialized construction and basic hand tools.
Under limited supervision, leads a work crew in the installation, construction, repair and maintenance of water and wastewater utility systems.
An ideal candidate will have experience in utility infrastructure, asset management, customer service and leading utility crews.
While this position is open until filled, interviews will begin the week of January 27, 2025.
Essential Functions
Essential job functions includes but is not limited to the following :
- Receive written and oral work assignments from supervisor and / or foreman; determine necessary equipment, personnel and material needs.
- Determine the best way to set up a job site; assign staff to obtain and set up equipment, tools and materials needed to complete assignment.
- Operate heavy and / or specialized construction equipment.
- Oversee work crew responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing water and sewer mains and fire hydrants.
- Oversee work crew responsible for patching and repairing sidewalks, curbs, gutters and other concrete fixtures upon completion of an assignment.
- Assign workers to mow and maintain right-of-ways, perform vegetation control as needed.
- Operate all snowplow trucks and sanders in inclement weather.
- Investigate and respond to citizen complaints as assigned.
- Act as the Foreman or Utilities Maintenance Supervisor in the absence of the Foreman or Utilities Maintenance Supervisor as assigned.
- Provide on-the-job training for Maintenance Worker I and Maintenance Work II positions in heavy equipment operation, construction and repair techniques.
- Maintain regular attendance.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires four years experience in heavy manual labor or an equivalent combination of related education and experience; experience overseeing work crews to include experience training co-workers and subordinates in related craft desired; must possess and maintain a valid Washington State Drivers License with a Class A CDL certification with a driving record acceptable to the CIty's insurance carrier; must possess and retain Washington State Traffic Control and work zone safety certifications or be able to obtain with six months of hire.

Job Location and Equipment Utilized
Work is performed in an outdoor environment in seasonal heat, cold, and all other weather conditions. Exposure to toxic or hazardous substances, vibrations, airborne particles, dirt, fumes, and traffic also occur. Equipment utilized includes large vehicles such as backhoes, loaders, various kinds of trucks, street sweepers, and other standard construction vehicles. Other kinds of hand-held equipment, including concrete saws, jackhammers, compressors, sandblasters, spray guns and hand tools are also required.

Reviews and Pay Increases
Employees receive an initial performance review at the end of their orientation period followed by annual reviews based on date of hire. The pay range for employees is established by union contract. Employees receive increases once a year until they reach the top of their salary range, pending satisfactory or better performance. COLA's may be given annually per union contract or Council approval.
