The Recreation Coordinator - Youth assists the Recreation Supervisor - Recreation Programs in identifying, developing, and implementing recreation programs for preschool age children through teenage years that meet the needs within our community. This position provides administrative support including planning and publicity of youth/teen programs, recruiting, and scheduling staff, planning and production of special events, and monitoring program enrollment numbers. - Assist in the planning, coordination, and implementation of safe, fun, and stimulating recreation programs for children ages 3-18 which promote socialization, teamwork, and esteem building; lead activities including games, songs, crafts, drama, field trips, and snacks, based on established program parameters.
- Assist in the development and preparation of program materials; purchase supplies; create promotional brochures, calendars, flyers, and newsletters; issue confidential parent program evaluations.
- Maintain daily records of program attendance; inventory supplies required/used, and equipment needs; work within budget parameters and accurately follow standard monetary procedures.
- Maintain files on all participants, including authorized parent/guardian waiver forms and trip/activity release forms.
- Schedule and conduct interviews with Supervisor; assist in planning and developing summer day camp staff training program and coordinating in-service trainings; direct and monitor staff and volunteers; evaluate and write staff performances with Supervisor.
- Prepare written reports, as necessary or as assigned.
- Write and maintain accurate records and reports of any incidents, property damage, accidents, etc., involving program participants, staff and/or volunteers.
- Oversee program registration process; prepare current roster/attendance/label sheets and participant mailings.
- Prepare and maintain promotional displays and coordinates distribution of promotional materials and publicity for youth/teen activities; helps maintain department Facebook page, personally recruits youth/teens by regularly visiting various sites and schools in the community.
- Attend weekly staff meetings with Supervisor and part-time staff; review weekly/monthly staff calendars to ensure quality programs and age appropriate activities; perform site visits and provide constructive feedback to staff.
- Maintain positive public relations and provide a friendly, respectful work environment while serving the public.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to communicate effectively with the public, co-workers, volunteers, and elected officials.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, with attention to detail and with limited direct supervision.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, i.e., evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
- Ability to work in a noisy environment with frequent interruptions.
- Ability to maintain detailed records and write articles for publication.
- Knowledge of youth development and age-appropriate programming.
- Knowledge of Word, Excel, Class, Outlook, and Social Media; familiarity with InDesign, Photoshop, and other related software programs highly preferred.
- Ability to articulate the positive role of recreation activities and programs in the community.

- Ability to move equipment and/or supplies up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to operate a 15-passenger van highly preferred.
