General Description

Come join the Metro Transit team! This is exciting and responsible skilled building and grounds maintenance work performed in support of multiple Metro Transit facilities and operations. Employees perform a broad range of maintenance and repair activities applicable to Metro facilities to include general building and grounds maintenance, and electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, painting, and related mechanical repair work. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Transit Building and Grounds Supervisor.

  • $2,116.61 bi-weekly - initial salary
  • $2,160.99 bi-weekly - after 6 months

Employees may be eligible for loan forgiveness through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities

  • Alter, repair and maintain interior and exterior walls, ceiling, roofs and floors.
  • Maintain and repair windows, screens, and sky lights. Prepare and paint/stain wood or metal surfaces.
  • Perform grounds maintenance such as lawn mowing, landscaping, tree and shrub trimming, snow shoveling, plowing, and ice removal.
  • Pavement marking of parking lot.
  • Operate and maintain ARC, TIG and gas/cutting welding equipment.
  • Operate and maintain powers saws, planers, sanders, drills and related power and hand tools. Erect scaffolding.
  • Perform electrical and plumbing maintenance, installation and repair work.
  • Check and perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance on boiler and utility plant buildings.
  • Maintain, repair and operate snowplow equipment, lawn mowers, sweepers, scrubbers, and building equipment such as air compressors, wash rack equipment, air conditioning units, hydraulic vehicle hoists, fuel distribution system, heating pumps and distributing piping, ventilating and other installed equipment.
Perform related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Valid Wisconsin Driver's License

A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is not required to be hired as a Transit Utility Worker. However, employees who want to work overtime in the service lane must possess a Class B Commercial Driver's License with air brake endorsement.

Physical Requirements:

Employees in this position must be able to lift/carry objects weighing up to 80 pounds. In addition, employees must be able to frequently walk, stand, bend, twist, squat, climb and reach for extended periods of time. This position may require some work outdoors in all types of weather.

Salary : $2,117 - $2,161
