CLASSIFICATION TITLE: SUPERINTENDENT, FILTER
PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION:
The purpose of this classification is to direct employees in maintaining the City’s filtration plant and ensuring the production of potable drinking water that is safe for human consumption and adequate for fire protection.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Supervises operations at two filtration plants.
- Reviews daily wet chemistry results and daily operation log; reviews and signs discharge and withdraw reports; reviews monthly state operator reports and advises secretary of changes to reports; reviews and signs purchase orders and receiving reports; reviews and signs bills and timecards; reviews accident reports.
- Prepares annual budget.
- Informs assistant superintendents of tasks for the day.
- Conducts visual inspection of plant and lakes.
- Assists in wet chemistry testing when needed; reviews contract lab analysis.
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
- Answers questions from citizens concerning water quality.
- Attends meetings with chemical vendors; meets with City Engineer; conducts training meetings with employees; attends department head and Council meetings; conducts meetings with maintenance mechanics; and attends budget meetings, Division of Water meetings, KWWOA, KRW, and AWWA meetings.
- Assists and attends safety training; attends OSHA training.
- Reviews new equipment.
- Operates a personal computer, calculator, airboat, flow meter, lab spectrometer, chemical feeders, telephone, automobile, or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions, to include the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, or other system software.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs other related duties as required.
Requirements:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by college level coursework in microbiology, chemistry, and geometry; five years of experience in water treatment operations, including supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Must possess and maintain a valid Kentucky driver’s license.
Must possess and maintain a valid Kentucky Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Cabinet Class IV Water Plant Operators License.
