TITLE : EQUIPMENT MECHANIC
PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION :
The purpose of this classification is to repair and maintain all City vehicles and equipment, including garbage trucks, dump trucks, chippers, leaf machines, wood splitter, tire splitter, backhoe, and conveyor belts, etc.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Inspects garbage and dump trucks and other departmental equipment, tests equipment.
Consults foreman for day’s agenda.
Repairs vehicles and equipment; diagnosis mechanical problems.
Finds best price on needed parts; locates rare parts.
Makes service calls.
Performs routine and preventive maintenance.
Operates a garbage truck, dump truck, backhoe, chipper, leaf machine, wood splitter, tire splitter, tub grinder, motor vehicle, loader, hand tools, diagnostic tools, air tools, or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS :
Jump starts vehicles; greases belts; adds oil and hydraulic fluid to vehicles or machinery.
Performs other related duties as required.
Requirements :
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
High school diploma or GED; three years of experience in automotive and equipment maintenance and repair; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Employee must supply own tools.
