TITLE: UTILITY MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION:
The purpose of this classification is to perform skilled and semi-skilled work in the installation and repair of the City’s water utilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for the classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Checks on all issues from meter reading reports (leaks, high, low, keyed, activity on inactive) promptly for correct billing purposes.
- Trouble-shoots meter issues to determine the issue and the course of action needed to fix it.
- Operate Locater Equipment to maintain Bud calls.
- Good communication with office staff is required to pass along findings from the field and with the general public to provide the expected customer service
- Install new meters for new customers and pull meters when needed.
- Complete service requests for our customers including checking leaks, high bills, and turning off water (emergency or for work to be completed).
- Maintain knowledge of meter locations.
- Changes out meters.
- Assist crew when needed, delivering materials, flagging traffic, and handing out water notices.
- Picks up materials and tools from local supply houses when needed.
- Operates meter reading devices, handheld radios, trucks, forklifts, locators, hand tools, pumps, or other equipment necessary to complete essential functions.
- Maintains Cleanliness of shop and office areas.
- Maintains the Water Dept. grounds, mowing, weed eating, and keeping the area clean.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs other related duties as required.
Requirements:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED.
One year of experience in utility maintenance; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Must possess and maintain a valid Kentucky driver’s license.
May require a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and approved endorsements.
Salary : $18 - $24
