PURPOSE OF POSITION
The job description does not constitute an employment agreement between the employer and employee and is subject to change by the employer as the needs of the employer and requirements of the job change.
Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance work. Participates in the landscape and maintenance of City parkland, athletic fields, parks facilities and the grounds of selected City buildings and facilities. As a lead worker, directs and supervises the work of other employees assigned to the work crew. Works under the general direction of the Public Works Director, or assigned designee.
This position is considered an emergency / disaster position. During emergency conditions, all City employees are automatically considered emergency service workers. City employees are subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation, which requires that the employee be ready, willing, and able to report to work during emergencies and / or disasters of any kind, notwithstanding any other commitments the employee may have and be able perform emergency services duties, as assigned.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS / OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Provide daily leadership and direction to assigned personnel, Grounds Maintenance Tradesworker.
Prune and remove trees, and load debris.
Mow, edge, weedeat, chemically treat, verti-slice and aerifies, seed, top dress, sand fertilize turf on athletic fields or in City Parks and right of ways. Trim hedges, trees, groom plant material, weed, and mulch plant material.
Plants lawns, trees, shrubs, flowers, etc.
Cleans and maintains park lots, sidewalks, tennis and basketball courts. Prepares athletic fields or Parks for games, rentals or special events. Installs and maintains goal posts and nets for sport facilities including soccer, volleyball, baseball, softball, tennis and basketball.
Install brick walkways, fencing, retaining walls, signage, traffic controls and other site amenities.
Installs, removes, maintains and repairs associated facilities including restrooms, "dugouts", fountains, and storage facilities.
Operates trucks of various sizes and weights in the hauling and unloading of various equipment and materials.
Possess a valid Florida Driver's License and CDL certification, or ability to obtain one.
Assists in the construction of new athletic fields or parks; and associated facilities including clearing, grading, and drainage work.
Frequent lifting of 50 or more lbs, stooping, bending, reaching full extension, and walking. Frequent exposure to cold, heat, inclement weather, noise and vibration.
Opens and closes, locks and unlocks City facilities as needed.
Maintains availability for "standby" assignment for a week at a time or other pre-determined schedule, and availability for return to work under City's "call back" procedures.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
General housekeeping, cleaning of equipment, taking and delivering messages, and answering telephones.
Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
High school graduate or equivalent. Two or more years of experience in landscape construction or maintenance and a minimum of one year of supervisory experience.
Possess a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License (CDL) certification, Class B, or obtain the CDL certification within six (6) months of employment.
Must also possess the National Incident Management System (NIMS) IS-700 within 30 days of employment and the ICS-100 and ICS-200 within 90 days of employment or from the date of taking the position. There may be additional NIMS required, which will be scheduled by your Supervisor.
CRITICAL SKILLS / EXPERTISE
Working knowledge of athletic field or grounds maintenance; and operation of irrigation systems.
Working knowledge of irrigation systems.
Skilled in verbal and written communications and report writing.
Ability to read blue prints and interpret landscape plans.
