Performs a variety of routine semi-skilled and skilled maintenance work, and operates a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, and maintenance of city owned buildings and facilities. Works under the general direction of the Public Works Director, or assigned designee.
This position is considered an emergency/disaster position. During emergency conditions, all City employees are automatically considered emergency service workers. City employees are subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation, which requires that the employee be ready, willing, and able to report to work during emergencies and/or disasters of any kind, notwithstanding any other commitments the employee may have and be able perform emergency services duties, as assigned.Receives and understands written and verbal instructions. Reads and interprets blue prints, diagrams, and technical data.
Using various hand tools, power tools and specialized equipment, participates in the maintenance and repair of buildings and facilities.
Operates a variety of power construction and maintenance equipment used to perform required projects.
Work requires standing for extended periods, frequent lifting and/or moving of 25 pounds or more, frequent bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, digging, reaching,
crawling, kneeling, and climbing of ladders.
Ensures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use.
Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor.
Possess a valid Florida Driver's License and CDL Class B certification, or ability to obtain one.
Operates trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment and materials.
Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew.
Works frequently in extreme weather. Occasionally works in confined areas and various heights.
May be required to assist the Streets Maintenance Division when needed.
Maintains availability for “standby” assignment for a week at a time or other pre-determined schedule, and availability for return to work under City’s “call back” procedures.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Sweeping and cleaning of work areas and work vehicles. Completing forms, writing reports, delivering messages.
Performs all other duties as assigned.High school diploma or equivalent. One to three years of experience performing work in the building trades, to include street maintenance, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Possess a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License (CDL) certification, Class B, or obtain the CDL certification within six (6) months of employment.
Must also possess the National Incident Management System (NIMS) IS-700 within 30 days of employment and the ICS-100 within 90 days of employment. There may be additional NIMS required, which will be scheduled by your Supervisor. Considerable knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction and repair activities.
Skill in operation of the listed tools and equipment.
Ability to use Computers with windows based programs, to include but not limited to e-mail, Microsoft outlook, excel and word.
Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time; Ability to work safely; Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public; Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
