Position Summary
The Community Development Department is seeking a charismatic, energetic, team-oriented individual who is flexible and highly motivated to serve as the Combination Inspector. The successful applicant will be a technically proficient and customer service-oriented individual who can perform routine to complex inspections of residential and commercial building construction and renovations.

The hiring range for the Combination Inspector II is: $68,307.20 - $93,932.80, DOE
Language stipend available for Bilingual (English/Spanish) language skills!
This position may be filled as a Combination Inspector I based on qualifications of applicant pool.
Essential Job Functions
Typical duties include:
Conduct field inspections for code compliance of residential and/or commercial structures including architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, gas, plumbing and other items; reviews approved building plans and compares to actual construction to ensure compliance. Develop close working ties with City and outside review agency representatives. Support Emergency Operation Center related functions as necessary. Under the supervision of a certified plans examiner, may conduct plan review of architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, plumbing and site construction plans for conformance with applicable codes and policies.
Minimum Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED supplemented by a Vocational/Technical degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Plumbing Systems, Construction, or related field; three (3) years’ experience as a residential or commercial building inspector; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Special Requirements
Must have and maintain a Combination Residential Inspector certification and must obtain and maintain certification as a Combination Commercial Inspector within eighteen (18) months of employment; may be required to possess additional certification(s) as deemed necessary by the City.
Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver's license.
