The City of Manassas is accepting applications to join our outstanding Systems Operations Team! We are looking for a talented individual who can perform a variety of semi-skilled functions related to monitoring and controlling the City's SCADA system for the electric & water utilities.
This position serves as liaison between City residents and Public Works & Utilities personnel by receiving customer calls and contacting field personnel for emergency outages; monitoring utility systems and electric generators; and performing utility load reduction, reducing peak consumption.

Systems Operations Apprentice (B09): $24.51 | Entry Level Rate

Performs security-related functions outside and inside Public Works facility by monitoring day and infrared night cameras: monitors security, fire and operating alarms throughout facility and substations; monitors City Security Cameras which are directed toward all electrical substations, water and sewer facilities, generator locations throughout the city; and initiates response according to established policy and procedure.
Monitors/operates equipment in cases of computer outages, SCADA issues, circuit and substation outages; notifies and dispatches field crews as well as internal supervision and the VMEA Group; and maintains logbook of daily events and other related utility records.
Assists with the maintenance maps of the distribution system, substations, and associated equipment; learns to read and interpret maps.
Advises supervisor or other System Operators of any weather systems that may pose a threat to the system reliability.
Performs duties during an established shift schedule of Monday through Friday 6:00am - 2:00pm. This role is also designated as a floater position to fill in for other shifts when Operators are off.

Systems Operator I
Requires High School diploma and completion of the System Operator Certification program; supplemented by one year of experience as a Utility Systems Operator Apprentice; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must have a valid state driver's license.
Systems Operations Apprentice
Requires High School diploma; supplemented by one year of experience in public utility planning, operations and/or service, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must have a valid VA driver’s license.
Note: Incumbent must complete the C.O.M. System Operator Certification Program within one year of hire.This position requires experience working with two-way radios, phone systems, Miss Utility, SCADA communications and distribution map boards. The ideal candidate will have experience authoring and executing electrical system switching orders, Electric Utility System Generation, and experience with logbook record keeping. Candidate should also be familiar with Electric Utility System Distribution Substations, overhead and underground electrical distribution equipment, and SCADA System operation.
Familiarity with City of Manassas streets, electric and water systems, and ability to work effectively with various City departments providing on-going assistance to emergency crew on site for Public Works and Utilities.
Schedule Note: This department is a 24-hour/7-day operation; shifts are 12 hours – 4 days one week / 3 days the next week. This position will be a Day Shift (6am to 2pm) Monday through Friday. This schedule will also include working holidays that land on the scheduled workday.
