SUMMARY
Assists in activities of municipal fire department by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING. Other duties may be
assigned.
Reports to the Fire Chief on all matters relating to the Fire Department.
Assist in development of yearly budget for submission to the Finance Director. Assist in equipment replacement schedule based on the needs of the department.
Assist in training of personnel and administers laws and regulations affecting the department. Assist and/or assume personal command at multiple alarm fires.
Assist in mutual fire protection plans with surrounding municipalities and volunteer Fire departments.
Assist in public relations and fire prevention for the department. Investigates all fires for cause and origin, and serves as Arson Investigator.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in the management of subordinate supervisors and the firefighters of the department.
Assist in supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
To act in the capacity of Fire Chief in the absence of the Fire Chief, according to Section 13 of the Charter of the City of Manchester.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associates degree or equivalent; or ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries and complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Current Tennessee Driver's License, Journeyman Firefighting Certificate (Fire Fighter I and Fire Fighter II). Meet annual training requirements for State of Tennessee Additional Proficiency Pay.
