Job Title: Meter Reader

Reports To: Lead Meter Reader

SUMMARY:
Reads consumption on meters and records volume used by customers. Turns water on/off as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Walks or drives truck over established route and takes reading of meter dials.
Inspects meters and connections for defects, damage, and unauthorized connections.
Indicates irregularities on forms for necessary action by servicing department.
Verifies readings to locate abnormal consumption and records reasons for fluctuations.
Turns services on or off as position requires.
Uploads and downloads data for billing purposes.
Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.). Prior experience and some computer training is preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read analyze, and interpret reports and manuals. Ability to convey thoughts both orally and in written form. Must be able to follow simple instructions.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written and/or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Valid Tennessee Driver License
CDL Class A or B Preferred
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, climb and/or balance. The employee is required to use hands, reach with arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to lift and move up to 25 lbs, frequently lift and/or move 50 lbs, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance and color vision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee must be able to work in all weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. Occasionally, the employee is exposed to wet conditions; high, precarious places; acidic, toxic, or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; noise level in the work environment can be loud.
