Job Summary
Under the direction of the supervisor, the Beginner Sports Instructor creates and leads youth sports educational programs and events that take place at both indoor and outdoor sports facilities.
Job Duties
- Implements and teaches the program lesson plan as written by MPRD Staff.
- Aids Recreation Coordinator in creation of lessons.
- Notifies, instructs, and corrects participant behavior that is inconsistent with program rules in a fair, timely, and polite manner.
- Provides excellent customer service and possesses a service philosophy which reflects the mission for the Parks and Recreation Department.
- Performs facility opening/closing responsibilities as directed.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative professional working relationships with others, individually and in a team environment and communicates in a courteous and tactful manner.
- Performs minor first aid for injuries that may occur when supervising.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required Education and Experience
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.
- Friendly and energetic demeanor.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Knowledge and experience of sports, game rules, and regulations.
- Experience teaching children ages 3 to 6 years old.
Physical Demands / Work Environment
- Work facilities include the Anthony and Eisenhower Recreation Centers, Douglass Activity Center, Eisenhower Baseball Fields, and/or Manhattan High School East Campus.
- Work is performed weeknights and weekend mornings.
- Noise level and activity level will be varied.
- Stands, walks, sits, uses hands, handles, feels, speaks, hears, climbs stairs, pushes, pulls, or lifts up to 50 pounds.
Other Information
- This is not a KPERS covered position.
Salary : $14
