Summary/Objective
Seasonal Laborers maintain City of Manhattan grounds and facilities by performing various maintenance duties.
Essential Functions
- Perform general labor duties related to maintenance such as debris removal, mowing, painting, weed eating, janitorial duties, and other miscellaneous tasks assigned.
- Perform proper horticultural practices including irrigation, fertilization, weed control, planting, and pruning.
- Operate a variety of tools and equipment including riding lawn mower, push lawn mower, weed eater, saws, and basic hand tools.
- Operate a vehicle, such as dump trucks, one-ton service trucks, or tractors, as needed.
- Ensure all division equipment and vehicles are in proper operating condition to safely perform tasks prior to use. This includes but is not limited to, assisting in general equipment maintenance, adhering to maintenance schedules, checking oil levels, changing/sharpening blades, lubricating equipment, and performing safety inspections.
- Maintain records, maintenance logs, and activity records via the use of mobile and stationary electronic devices such as computers, iPads, and tablets.
- Use applicable personal protective equipment required in hazardous environments and emergency situations.
- Communicate orally and in writing, including using the telephone and two-way radio.
- Represent the City of Manhattan with the public and other City employees.
Supervisory Responsibilities (if applicable).
- May lead the work of volunteers or community service workers on occasion. In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
Other Duties.
- Assist supervisors and other departmental personnel in other projects for the benefit of the City and/or the department.
- Follow standardized work procedures and practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required Education and Experience.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Valid Driver’s License.
Preferred Education and Experience.
- Six (6) months experience in maintenance activities.
