Job Summary
Recreation Attendant staff will facilitate a positive experience for customers at a City of Manhattan Parks and Recreation facility or location, either indoor, outdoor, or both. Staff may be asked to serve in a lead role as required and/or provide service at a location other than their primary location.
Job Duties
- Provides excellent customer service and possesses a service philosophy which reflects the mission for the Parks and Recreation Department.
- Greets customers as they enter the facility/location and ensures they are properly registered prior to use.
- Opens and/or closes Parks & Recreation facilities/locations, both indoor and outdoor.
- Maintains a professional appearance according to department policies, including the proper attire and footwear.
- Notifies, instructs, and corrects customer behavior that is inconsistent with safety procedures.
- Assists with set-up/tear down of events or activities (chairs, tables, bleachers, and other equipment).
- Assists in ensuring a clean, organized, and safe facility/location, which includes light janitorial/cleaning tasks as directed by supervisors.
- Moves throughout facility/location to monitor usage and supervises/assists customers as needed.
- Acts as support staff for administrative staff and program supervisors.
- Carries out all procedures exactly as described by the Emergency Action Plan (EAP) in times of emergency or crisis. EAP training will be provided by MPRD.
- May supervise the fitness area and all members during operational hours.
- May be required to maintain proficiency in computer data entry skills, including use of CivicRec and/or other software solutions.
- May answer the phone in a cheerful, polite manner. Directs phone calls to the proper people.
- May work in an after-school program setting for middle schoolers that includes monitoring participants, enforcing rules, and participating in activities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required Education and Experience
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Valid driver’s license (Fall, Winter, & Spring).
Preferred Education and Experience
- Knowledge and experience of recreation and fitness, spots, game rules, and regulations.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
- Work will be performed at assigned location(s), which could be indoor and/or outdoor.
- Staff will be required to work varied shifts daily including evenings, weekends and some holidays.
- Employee may be required to work in extreme temperatures.
- Work is performed in a potentially noisy environment.
- Employee must have the ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands, handle, feel, speak, hear, climb stairs, push, pull, or lift up to 40 pounds.
Other Information
- This is a seasonal position and, as such, is not covered by KPERS.
- Uniforms will be provided.
