The City of Manhattan is accepting applications for a KDHE Group Leader for Little Apple Day Camp. The Group Leader will work directly with the Camp Director by implementing a licensed school age program for 185 youth. The selected candidate(s) must be able to attend all in-service training sessions.
This position includes full-time, daytime hours (Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. during the summer camp timeframe). Group Leader duties run from late May to early August with pre-camp preparation from March to May.
Essential Functions
- Programs all-day activities, including life sports, arts and crafts, games, music, and outdoor recreational programs.
- Provides supervision and direction to the children and youth assigned to the group.
- Supervises group activities during all hours that children and youth are present.
- Provides supervision and direction to an assistant group leader.
- Prepares weekly and daily schedules.
- Maintains records for State of Kansas requirements (attendance, vaccine records, and physical forms).
- Notifies the proper agency in the event of an emergency.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills & Additional Qualifications
- High School diploma, GED or equivalent.
- Experience working with school-age children or school-age youth.
- CPR/First Aid Certification (Can be obtained through Parks & Recreation).
- Selected candidate(s) must pass a KBI background check.
- Must be 18 years or older.
Preferred Knowledge & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in early childhood, elementary education, recreation, related field, or experience that is necessary to achieve certification as a childcare facility director.
- Experience with special needs campers.
Other Information
- This is not a KPERS covered position.
- Seasonal position (March – August).
