What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Library Youth Services Intern position at City of Manitowoc?
Manitowoc Public Library Youth Services Department seeks an enthusiastic individual to join our team as our summer intern. This position is 12 weeks at 40 hours per week from the end of May to mid-August; the schedule will include weekday, weeknight and weekend hours. This position will work primarily in our Youth Services Department assisting with our Summer Reading Program. They will help with programming and prep, promote and register patrons of all ages for the Summer Reading Program, explain the program to patrons, hand out prizes, work the service desk, and help keep track of participation.
- Works closely with Youth Services staff to prepare daily department operations, activities, and projects
- Assist Youth staff in organizing, prepping, creating, running, and monitoring children’s and teen programming throughout the summer
- Provide direct customer service on the Youth desk
- Assist patrons in finding materials
- Assist Youth staff in compiling Summer Reading and weekly program participation data
Minimum qualifications include customer service experience and experience working with children/teens. Preferred qualifications include minimum of a high school degree/diploma and enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in education, library science, or closely related field.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, general knowledge of library practices, proficient in Microsoft Office products, creative, team attitude, self-motivated, excellent customer services skills, good time management skills.
