What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Maintenance-Engineering position at City of Manitowoc?
The Engineering Division of the Department of Public Infrastructure is responsible for all aspects of the City’s Public Works Projects, including survey, design, plan preparation, preparation of construction contracts, construction inspection, record keeping and mapping. This position performs a variety of surveying related work for various construction projects. Supervision is received from the Surveyor Technician or Engineering Division Manager.
- Uses a computer to prepare various documents using Microsoft Access, Excel and Word, e-mail, and web related programs
- Serves as an assistant on the survey crew
- Construction staking for line and grade and other staking and surveying as required
- Cross-sectioning/preliminary surveying for future construction projects
- Cuts and removes brush from survey lines and searches for survey monuments as directed
- Assists the surveyor with maintaining the City’s benchmark system including running benchmark circuits as needed
- Reviews television inspection reports for the City’s sanitary and storm sewer system
- Assists with various tasks related to the City’s Stormwater Discharge Permit
- Perform Traffic Counts at various intersections
- Performs basic engineering calculations with accuracy
- Assists in setting house grades
- Prepare cut sheets
- Indexing of records
- Filing plans and cleaning up plan drawers
- Makes field measurements for records and payment purposes, and records construction data in the field book
- Plots, surveys, and draws field notes to scale showing alignment, topography and profile
Education: Minimum requirements include high school diploma or equivalent supplemented by an equivalent combination of experience and training preferably in surveying, drafting, surveying mathematics, computer aided drafting and design (CADD) which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position as determined by Management. Applicants pursing a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Associates Degree in Engineering Technology or in a construction related field are preferred.
Experience: Experience in general engineering work, drafting, surveying, construction inspection, mathematical procedures, and performing minor engineering calculations.
Certifications/Licenses: Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license issued by the State of Wisconsin.
This position must have the knowledge of basic algebraic and trigonometric mathematical procedures and the ability to perform minor engineering calculations accurately; and possess ability to read and interpret charts and graphs, etc. This position requires experience in the use of personal computers and computer programs including Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, e-mail, and CADD. This position must have the ability to exercise good judgment at all times; must have the ability to maintain a professional attitude and a reasonable demeanor during all conversations; and must have the ability to discuss and resolve problems in a tactful and professional manner.Salary : $13 - $17
