MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT
The City of Mansfield, Ohio, Director of Human Resources announces the opening of the following classified, full-time position in the WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT DIVISION:

Maintenance Technician 16 D-F $17.61- $24.99 $36,629 - $51,979
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Performs highly skilled mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of specialized machinery in the Wastewater treatment plant and lift stations; performs related duties.
EXAMPLES OF WORK (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY):
· Installs and/or makes major mechanical repairs of engines, electric motors, metering equipment, high and low-voltage controls, compressors, and plumbing;
· Does acetylene, arc, and MIG welding; replaces, repairs, and fabricates various parts;
· Performs preventative maintenance on equipment and pump stations (minor part replacement, lubrication, and cleaning);
· Diagnose problems and repair AC and DC variable frequency drives, motors, starters, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and actuated valves;
· Installs and repairs air, sewer, and hydraulic piping systems; performs pipe fitting;
· Provides electrical-related assistance to Instrumentation/Electrical Technician;
· Performs chlorine tank changes;
· Maintains equipment records, files manuals;
· Performs inspections, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance, and conducts corrective
maintenance of wastewater treatment plant apparatus, equipment, and pump stations as directed. Work is performed with considerable independence in maintaining, diagnosing equipment malfunction, and completing repairs; Assists other personnel
with routine and emergency maintenance of facilities as required;
· Communicates any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries promptly to his/her supervisor to facilitate prompt correction or reporting;
· Work may also involve performing building maintenance tasks on plant buildings and lift stations, including construction design, layout, painting, masonry repair, plumbing, and minor electrical repair.
· Involved with the storing and issuing of supplies, tools, parts, and equipment. Procures parts and maintains an inventory of miscellaneous shop supplies and parts room. Notifies Maintenance Supervisor when additional supplies, equipment, or repairs are needed.
· Assists with grounds maintenance, as necessary;
· Performs other related duties.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
· Knowledge of safety practices, standard maintenance procedures and methods, tools and materials of the electrical and mechanical trades, welding, machine work, and related mechanical trade operations; ability to interpret technical manuals, schematics, drawings, and blueprints and perform work outlined through those documents, follow oral and written instructions, take initiative and work independently, works well with others;
· Knowledge of mechanical maintenance and repair
· Knowledge of telemetry instrumentation and control system troubleshooting fundamentals
· Skill in locating the cause of mechanical systems and equipment defects
· Skilled in operating hand and power tools
· Knowledge of basic math concepts
· Skilled in motor equipment operation
· Ability to follow instructions in oral, written, or picture form
· Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods in adverse environmental conditions such as wastewater; Climb ladders or steps to reach objects, travel across rough, uneven surfaces, and work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the outdoor elements in the distribution system or treatment plant; to work in confined spaces (tanks, lift stations, tunnels, digesters, etc.);
· Must be available for overtime and emergency call-outs
· Must possess a valid Ohio Driver’s License
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Considerable experience in mechanical maintenance work involving plumbing, mechanical and electrical repair, and installation, and some experience in the maintenance of water pollution control or Wastewater treatment plants. You must have completed standard high school or vocational school, including or supplemented by courses in the mechanical trades; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. A valid commercial driver’s license is preferred but not required. An Ohio EPA Wastewater Treatment professional Operator certification is preferred_______________________________________________________________________________
