Examples Of Work To Be Performed
- Plans, Directs and performs a variety of technical tasks to ensure the effective operation, maintenance, and functioning of the City’s Traffic Management Center (TMC); develops special events response plans, and provides guidance during severe weather events.
- Support and repair Public Works Department electronic assets, such as computers, servers, iPads, tablets, and related networks.
- Monitors the TMC equipment including cameras, servers, software, and hardware for full functionality; manages and coordinates any TMC product and installation warranties, product documentation, and/or any necessary equipment and software upgrades.
- Troubleshoot and support programs such as but not limited to Cartegraph, Centracs, and Axis software.
- Monitors and modifies, as directed by the Transportation Engineer, signal timing along corridors.
- Responds to complaints and identifies solutions regarding signal timing and traffic congestion.
- Prepares specifications; orders materials, supplies, and electronic equipment for the Public Works Department.
- Consults with Department personnel, manufacturers and/or vendors regarding equipment operation, design, installation, equipment failure, complex repairs or replacement recommendations.
- Assist in evaluating the costs of integrating new equipment and systems.
- Assists with coordination of workforce for responses during emergency operations.
- Provides technical support, guidance, and training related to intelligent transportation systems.
- Attends and participates in professional group meetings; stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of traffic engineering.
- Perform other Public Works activities as needed or directed.

Required Knowledge Skills And Abilities
- Knowledge of common principals, practices, equipment, materials and methods used in the installation and maintenance of traffic control devices.
- Knowledge of programming, operation and diagnostics of Econolite and Eagle controllers.
- Ability to analyze problems and plan solutions.
- Working knowledge and ability to use tools and equipment as needed in maintenance activities.
- Operations of modern computers and related software.
- Management of communications networks and systems.
- Fundamentals of electricity and electronics as related to traffic signal, and intelligent transportation systems.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge and experience with Synchro, PASSER, Centracs software.
- High School diploma and minimum of 5 years of experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of traffic control devices.

- Valid Class C Texas Driver License.
