BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform a variety of routine grounds maintenance and duties in the beautification of assigned golf course.
Example of Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Safely operate a variety of equipment including – mowers, blowers, string trimmers and hedge trimmers.
Mow, edge, trim, aerate and water lawns, fields, fairways, greens and other turf grounds; prepare and fertilize soil; water various grounds areas by hand or by operating the irrigation system.
Plant, cultivate, prune, spray, fertilize, remove and irrigate flowers, trees, grass and shrubs; grind and remove tree stumps as necessary; hoe and pull weeds and rake leaves; edge walkways; sweep litter from walks and driveways.
Perform general grounds cleanup and maintenance including, but not limited to; picking up paper and trash on grounds areas, parking lots, walkways, fairways and other assigned areas; empty trash receptacles as assigned. Change cups, move tee markers and service ball washers. Wash clubhouse windows.
Operate a variety of power-driven equipment such as, mowers, edgers, blowers, hedge trimmers, power pressure sprayers, aerators and other equipment used in grounds maintenance work; utilize standard gardening hand tools; drive a vehicle to conduct work.
Paint a variety of golf course fixtures and structures including tee and fairway yardage markers, ball washer, drinking fountains, restrooms, pump stations, appliances and driving range partitions.
Maintain grounds maintenance equipment in safe operating condition; perform minor maintenance on equipment such as changing blades.
Assist with maintenance and repair of irrigation systems, and modifications, drainage additions and aerification and tree removal; remove graffiti as needed; clean, maintain and restock restrooms as directed.
Perform cart path maintenance and repairs; sweep and edge concrete cart paths, level and repair potholes on unpaved cart paths.
Perform sand trap maintenance such as sand replacement, tilling, edging and raking.
Provide regular maintenance to the course such as weeding, raking and maintenance of playing surfaces in a clean and safe environment.
Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Conduct operations while providing the least amount of disturbance to customers.
Communicate with City personnel and outside agencies to exchange information and resolve issues of maintenance, repairs, safety and other groundskeeping related issues.
Maintain routine records related to assigned activities.
OTHER DUTIES:
Assist with traffic control to assure safety of maintenance activities as necessary. Perform related duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Basic grounds maintenance procedures including mowing, edging, raking and weeding.
Methods, equipment and materials used in gardening and groundskeeping work.
Cultivating, fertilizing, watering and spraying of greens, trees and shrubs.
Operation and maintenance of hand and power tools and equipment used in groundskeeping.
Health and safety regulations.
Proper lifting techniques.
ABILITY TO:
Perform a variety of routine grounds maintenance and gardening duties in the beautification of assigned golf courses.
Mow, edge, water, weed, fertilize, rake and cultivate lawns, and other landscaped areas.
Operate and maintain hand and power tools and other equipment used in grounds maintenance.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Learn basic record-keeping techniques.
Observe health and safety regulations.
Work cooperatively with others.
Perform heavy physical labor.
Report to work every scheduled workday.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above.
