STREET MAINTENANCE/EQUIPMENT OPERATOR II BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Facilities Maintenance Superintendent, perform a variety of skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair work to City streets, parking lots, storm drains, sewer lines and traffic control devices; operate a variety of light and heavy street maintenance construction equipment.

STREET MAINTENANCE/EQUIPMENT OPERATOR III BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Facilities Maintenance Superintendent, lead and participate in a variety of skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair work to City streets, parking lots, storm drains, sewer lines and traffic control devices; operate a variety of light and heavy street maintenance construction equipment; train and provide work direction to assigned crew staff.

Example of Duties

STREET MAINTENANCE/EQUIPMENT OPERATOR II DUTIES:


Perform a variety of skilled installation, maintenance and repair work to City streets, parking lots, storm drains, sewer lines, painting, concrete, sidewalk, asphalt and traffic control devices; assure compliance with health and safety regulations, applicable laws, codes, ordinances and regulations, including traffic diversion.

Operate and maintain a variety of heavy and light power-driven street maintenance and construction equipment including tractors, skiploaders, backhoes, rollers, jackhammers, dump trucks, refuse trucks, vibra plates, paint rigs, crack sealers, thermos, grinders, concrete saws, graders, street sweepers and related equipment; maintain tools and equipment in safe working condition; drive a vehicle to conduct work.

Determine the locations of gas, telephone, power, television, water and sewer lines from the appropriate sources prior to excavation.

Prepare streets for asphalt and concrete repair and installation; perform asphalt patching, repaving chuck hole and crack sealing repairs; jet rod sanitary sewers, and storm drain cleaning and repair; install construct or repair concrete sidewalks, curbs and gutters; install or repair rails.

Construct, install, alter and maintain storm drains; remove asphalt; cut, fit, lay, repair, clean and flush storm water pipes; clean fittings on lines and fire hydrants; clear brush and debris from storm drains; seal cracks; compact soil, grade and repave streets.

Clean road spills including hazardous materials according to established guidelines as assigned.

Modify, weld, construct and fabricate special devices and fixtures on equipment as assigned.

Assist with street striping as assigned; operate spray guns and brushes to paint pedestrian crosswalks, bus stops, parking and center lines and other pavement markings according to applicable City ordinances and laws; stencil letters for curb and street pavement legends.

Lay out and measure parking zones, and traffic markings; mix paint to proper consistency; remove and erect street signs; clean and maintain spray equipment; install or repair guard rails; estimate material and supply needs for projects.

Assist with the planning scheduling and implementation of construction, maintenance and operation activities; assists in training other employees.

Inspect and repair street drainage systems and storm sewer systems according to established schedules.

Maintain a variety of records related to inspections, maintenance, and repairs.

Communicate with City personnel and various outside agencies to exchange information, coordinate activities and resolve issues or concerns.

Respond to complaints and service requests; communicate with business and residents regarding access and service outages and restoration.

Break out and load asphalt and concrete onto large dump trucks.

Utilize a grader to grade and crown City streets, road and alleys; roll asphalt.

Perform minor repairs on equipment and report the need for major repairs; check and replenish fluid levels; grease and lubricate moving parts as required.

Perform additional construction and maintenance tasks such as concrete work, asphalt spreading and a variety of repair activities.

Install traffic cones and barricades as needed.

OTHER DUTIES:

Remain on-call and work after hours without supervision as directed.

Perform other duties as assigned.


STREET MAINTENANCE/EQUIPMENT OPERATOR III DUTIES:


Lead and participate in a variety of skilled street maintenance, traffic signing and curb, gutter and sidewalk repair work to City streets, parking lots, storm drains, sewer lines, painting, concrete, sidewalk, asphalt and traffic control devices; assure compliance with health and safety regulations, applicable laws, codes, ordinances and regulations, including traffic diversion.

Lead and participate in the preparation of streets for asphalt and concrete in street repair; perform asphalt patching, jet rod sanitary sewers, and storm drain cleaning and repair; install construct or repair concrete sidewalks, curbs, gutters; install or repair rails.

Train and provide work direction to crew members on assigned job sites; assure safe and effective work methods and use of equipment and tools.

Operate and maintain a variety of heavy and light power-driven street maintenance and construction equipment including tractors, skiploaders, backhoes, rollers, jackhammers, dump trucks, refuse trucks, vibra plates, paint rigs, crack sealers, thermos, grinders, concrete saws, graders, street sweepers and related equipment; maintain tools and equipment in safe working condition; drive a vehicle to conduct work.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and two years experience at the level of Street Maintenance Worker I.
