The Position
The City of Maple Grove is seeking lifeguards! This is a wonderful opportunity for anyone looking for a first-time job, part-time hours, and/or flexible scheduling. As a lifeguard, you will help maintain a safe swimming environment through the supervision of our indoor pool area throughout the year and our outdoor pool and swimming beaches during the summer. Lifeguards may qualify for this position by having their current certifications or for those not already certified, the City will provide the certification training at no cost to the employee. Employees who receive paid certification training are expected to work through the current season and may be required to reimburse the costs of the training if that requirement is not met.
Hours: Flexible schedule, including early morning to late evening hours, weekends, and holidays. Our lifeguards are hired for casual part-time and seasonal work.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe environment for all patrons and staff.
- Familiarization with the pool layout and location of all safety equipment.
- Know the rules of the pool and enforce rules at all times.
- Use voice and whistle commands to provide simple and concise directions to maintain order on the deck and in the pool at all times.
- Administer first aid and complete necessary paperwork for any incident.
- Know the established emergency procedures and respond efficiently in an emergency situation.
- Report for duty in proper uniform.
- Interact professionally and courteously with employees and the public.
- Stay at the assigned station, maintaining steadfast alertness while guarding.
- Observe participants in the pool area, requiring close supervision, distant supervision, utilizing peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Report any missing safety equipment or replacement equipment needed to the supervisor.
- Participate in staff training as requested.
- Ability to make quick, sound decisions using judgment and problem-solving skills.
- Perform other related duties as requested by the supervisor.
- Sit or stand for a long period of time
Qualifications
- Must be 15 years of age or older.
- Must possess current Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid Certification or have the ability to complete the above certification course successfully.
- Must be able to perform Lifeguard Training pre-course skill requirements at regularly scheduled in-service training.
- Ability to lift and carry at least 50 lbs.
- Proficient swimmer.
- Lifeguard Training Instructor certificate
- Advanced First Aid Training, such as First Responder or Emergency Medical Technician
- Previous lifeguard experience
