What are the responsibilities and job description for the TEMPORARY- Commercial Appraiser position at City of Maple Grove?
The City of Maple Grove is seeking a temporary Commercial Appraiser to aide in the review and development of commercial appeals. This is a temporary position that will provide will provide additional assistance and guidance for a short term period of time.. This temporary assignment is expected to last no longer than May 6, 2025. Work will be performed and guided under the direction of the Finance Director.

- Revaluation of existing commercial, industrial and apartment real property, including other property types as needed to establish annual assessments
- Communicates and explains commercial assessments and appraisals to property owners or their representatives, including other property types as needed.
- Prepares narrative appraisal reports for use in tax appeal cases and testifies in court on matters related to appraisal and/or the assessment of commercial, industrial and apartment properties, including other property types.
- Analyzes, compares, and verifies sales data for commercial, industrial and apartment properties, including other property types as needed, to ensure that reliable data is available for support of the annual assessment.
- Assists the public with inquiries regarding legal requirements, property assessment methods, policies and procedures, including clarifying and explaining valuations completed by the assessing department for commercial, industrial and apartment properties.
- Informs the city assessor of significant developments related to commercial, industrial, and apartment properties within the city and regionally that could impact the property assessments.
- Completes property divisions and combinations for commercial, industrial and apartment properties as needed.
- Continually maintains knowledge of Minnesota Statutes that relate to the property assessment and current appraisal techniques, and assists in instructing department staff of these developments.
- Performs other related duties as apparent or assigned.
- Five years of increasingly responsible assessment and/or appraisal experience.
- Three years experience working with current Minnesota statutes related to assessment, assessment administration and property taxation.
- Three years experience working with commercial assessments, commercial appraisals, or property tax appeals.
- Experience preparing narrative appraisals of income producing properties for - and testifying before the Minnesota Tax Court.
- Accredited Minnesota Assessor (AMA) designation, from the Minnesota State Board of Assessors or licensure as a Certified General Real Property Appraiser by the Minnesota Department of Commerce and must obtain the Senior Accredited Minnesota Assessor (SAMA) designation from the Minnesota State Board of Assessors within three years of hire.
