The City of Maple Valley Parks & Recreation Department seeks Temporary Day Camp Leaders for the 2025 Summer Season at beautiful Lake Wilderness Park.
This position is responsible for the facilitating a positive experience for program participants in a variety of recreation summer camps. Day Camp Leaders ensure a safe and welcoming learning environment for children 6 to 11 years old at Camp Wild or children 12 to 15 years old at Wilderness Adventure Camp.

- Assist the Sr. Day Camp Leaders and Day Camp Manager with the facilitation and supervision of youth orientated programs, camps, after-school programs, and events.
- Lead recreation games, crafts, sports, and pre-planned activities.
- Assist with the supervision of program participants to meet the needs of the activity, event, or program.
- Greet the public and provide information and assistance regarding schedules, registration, program descriptions, and other general information over the phone and in person.
- Provide excellent internal and external customer service. Create a positive experience for patrons through professional and courteous behavior. Communicate feedback between participants and program supervisor.
- Respond calmly and effectively to emergency situations following and enforcing emergency procedures and regulations. Ensure the safety of program participants, co-workers, and the public by following City policies and procedures. If necessary, provide first aid. Complete and submit appropriate accident/incident records and forms.
- Determine program equipment and supply needs. Assist with the distribution, care, use, and maintenance of equipment and supplies. Maintain supply and equipment inventories.
Education, Experience & Special Requirements:

- Must be a minimum of 16 years of age
- Experience in leading children in one or more of the following areas: recreational games, arts, crafts, music, drama, or sports
- Minimum of one year of experience with planning, coordination, and implementation of programs for elementary aged youth
- Current First Aid/CPR certifications or the ability to obtain prior to start of camp
The Day Camp Leader is a seasonal position, eligible to work up to 5 months and may work an irregular schedule that includes some evenings and weekends as dictated by City programs and special events. This position is FLSA non-exempt and is eligible for overtime compensation. $17.50 - $21.14 per hour, DOE.
