Seasonal - Lifeguard

The City of Maple Valley Parks & Recreation Department seeks to hire multiple Temporary Lifeguards for the 2025 Summer Beach Season at beautiful Lake Wilderness Park.

Among other job responsibilities, this position will: (For a complete list see the Lifeguard job description)

• Assist the Beach Manager and Senior Lifeguards with the facilitation of open water beach operations while maintaining a safe, fun, and enriching environment for all participants and staff.
• Ensure a safe environment for beach and dock users at Lake Wilderness Park by observing all beach and water areas for unsafe situations or problems and taking appropriate measures to address the
• Patrol swimming areas, correct unsafe practices, assist swimmers in distress.
• Assist with all aspects of the boat rental operations including putting the public on the boats/boards and explaining the rental rules and safety responsibilities.
• Assists the Beach Manager and Recreation Coordinator in monitoring concessions and boat rental operations. Carries and moves lifeguard and boating equipment as needed.
• Determine program equipment and supply needs. Assist with the distribution, care, use, and maintenance of equipment and supplies. Maintain supply and equipment inventories.

Education, Skills & Experience Requirements:

• Must be a minimum of 16 years of age
• Current Lifeguard certification by a nationally recognized lifeguard program (American Red Cross, Boy Scouts of America, USLA) required
• Current Health Care Provider CPR/AED certification required
• Advanced First Aid/First Responder or Rescue preferred
• Minimum of 1 year lifeguarding experience, past experience as a lifeguard in an open water setting preferred
• Experience or certification in the field of Water Safety and Instruction preferred
• Work flexible hours including weekdays, evenings, weekends, and split shifts
• Interact with the public in a professional, responsive manner

The Senior Lifeguard is a seasonal position, eligible to work up to 5 months and may work an irregular schedule that includes evenings and weekends as dictated by city programs and special events. This position is FLSA non-exempt and is eligible for overtime compensation. $20.50 - $25.94 per hour, DOE. Positions are Open until Filled.

Would you like to be a Lifeguard, but you’re not certified? If hired, the city will conduct training classes for you to obtain your lifeguard certification.
