JOB TITLE : Parks Maintenance Technicians

OBJECTIVES :
Under general supervision, performs unskilled general labor and maintenance work for City parks, streets, facilities and infrastructure in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS :
- REPORTS TO : The Crew Leader
- DIRECTS : Does not supervise any employee
- OTHER : Has contact with other city employees and may have contact with the general public
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES :
Works on a park's landscape maintenance crew made up of two or more employees. Operates and maintains various equipment such as rotary and / or reel mowers, tractors, skid steers, weed-eaters, trimmers, chain and pole saws, shovels, hoes, rakes, pruning shears, truck, trailer, blower, and other equipment involved in the maintenance of assigned areas.
Responsible for the development and maintenance of parks and sports field areas performing duties such as pesticide and fertilizer applications, aerification of turfgrass, mowing, string trimming, picking up trash, building maintenance, fence installation / removal, edging, planting, tree pruning, tree removal, weeding flower beds, applying water to lawn area and flower beds, pruning trees, infield clay maintenance, etc.
May assist in the installation of sprinkler systems and perform irrigation repairs. Position includes light construction, application of various pesticides, and other related / assigned duties as required.
- Operates a variety of specialized equipment and performs general manual labor tasks in order to maintain parks, streets, infrastructure and City facilities as assigned;
- duties will vary according to job assignment and individual skills; responds to emergencies as needed. Performs maintenance and repairs within scope of authority, and in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures;
reports safety hazards, equipment problems and emergency situations. Operates and maintains a variety of tools and specialized equipment.
Assists in the repair and maintenance of parks and roadways; maintains landscaping and grounds; clears trash, brush, weeds and debris from roadways, structures, grounds and facilities.
Cleans and stores hazardous materials according to City policy and procedures. Hours include some over-time, weekends and holidays, (30-minute lunch).
Regular and prompt attendance is an essential function . Other duties may be assigned.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS :
A Maintenance Technician must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and to pull, push, or drag up to 100 pounds. A Maintenance Technician is required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time in the performance of duties.
Occasionally a Maintenance Technician is required to run, climb, crawl, stoop, twist, balance, or otherwise extend or contort the body in the performance of duties.
A Maintenance Technician must use eyes, ears, nose, arms, hands, fingers, legs and feet to perform assigned duties and responsibilities.
He or she must be able to work in confined spaces. Duties of the Maintenance Technician include exposure to heights; loud noise & vibrations;
mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards; fumes and odors; dust; mites; and toxic waste hazards. The job of Maintenance Technician is performed both indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures including heat, cold, temperature swings, and inclement weather.
