JOB SUMMARY
This is medium to heavy manual labor involving skilled work in various maintenance and construction tasks requiring the use of tools, equipment and the operation of medium to light automotive equipment. Work is performed under the supervision of the Recreation Director.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Maintains park and recreation grounds, rakes grass and waters plants.
- Weed flower beds, shape hedges and prunes hedges and trees.
- Cuts grass and weed eat.
- Operates power mowers, weed eaters, edges, clippers, various hand tools and other landscaping equipment hoes & shovels.
- Repairs sprinkler systems.
- Plants and fertilizes flowers.
- May operate other equipment such as backhoe or tractor.
- Prepare clay infields, spiking and dragging of ball fields.
- Performs general maintenance of all playing fields.
- Performs fence, carpentry, irrigation, playground masonry and building repairs.
- Performs custodial work as required.
- Enforce rules and regulations of recreational facilities to maintain discipline and ensure safety.
- Administer first aid according to prescribed procedures and notify emergency medical personnel when necessary,
- Greet participants and visitors.
- Performs related work as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Experience: Graduation from a standard high school (or GED) and one (1) year experience in grounds maintenance work or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Special Requirements:
- Valid Florida driver license.
- Certification in CPR and first aid must be received within six months of employment.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
- Considerable knowledge of the tools and equipment used in general maintenance work.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to laboring work.
- Knowledge of recreation rules, policies and procedures of various sporting events.
- Knowledge of relevant recreation equipment such as but not limited to scoreboards and line stripper.
- Skills in operation of various recreation equipment.
- Ability to operate light truck, tractors, and small automotive equipment.
- Ability to explain recreation rules, policies or procedures.
- Ability to perform medium to heavy manual labor.
- Ability to communicate information and ideas so others understand in English;
- Ability to follow directives with minimum supervision.
- Ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of observer).
- Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
- Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
- Ability to deal with the public tactfully and diplomatically.
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This work is light to medium work which requires exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
- Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
- Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
- Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
- Handling: Picking, holding or otherwise working primarily with the whole hand.
- Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
- Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work is primarily performed outside in all weather conditions with occasionally time inside.

HOURS OF WORK
Regular schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. However, hours may vary during different sports seasons which will result in some evenings and weekends depending game schedules.

Same as Recreation Specialist I and three (3) years of experience in a recreation or related field.

After an offer of employment and prior to commencement of the employment duties, applicant will be subject to completing and passing a physical examination, a drug screening for presence or absence of illegal controlled substance and a background check.
