UTILITY TECHNICIAN - NATURAL GAS
JOB SUMMARY
This is moderate to heavy manual work, involving the installation, repair, and maintenance of gas utility distribution system(s) and equipment. Work is performed and reviewed under the direction of the Foreman, Division of Natural Gas whose work is reviewed through reports and results by the Natural Gas Division Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs installation, repair, and maintenance duties on gas lines, services, equipment, taps, and gas meters.
Performs cut-on of services, line locations on underground gas utilities.
Investigates customer complaints.
Operates light truck, backhoe and other equipment.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Experience: Graduation from a standard high school or GED; one (1) year experience in performing moderate to heavy manual labor preferably in the utility service arena; or any combination of training or experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Special Requirements:
Must possess a valid driver license.
Must secure a class B commercial driver license within 90 days of employment.
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain all required operator qualification cover task requirements set forth by FDOT and PHSMA.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of modern principles, practices, and techniques utilized for the installation, repair and maintenance of various aspects of gas utility systems.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
Demonstrates skill in the use of required tools and equipment.
Ability to learn in house computer software programs.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions in English.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English.
Ability to perform heavy manual work and to work out of doors under adverse weather conditions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 101 or more pounds.
Frequent pushing & pulling of up to 40 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, reaching above shoulders, reaching outward, handling, fingering, standing, shoveling, & walking.
Occasionally climbing, crawling and sitting.
Frequent driving (automatic or manual shift).
Acceptable vision (with or without correction).
Acceptable hearing (with or without correction).
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Moderate to heavy manual labor.
Outside year round in all weather conditions.
Very physical and dirty.
HOURS WORKED
Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm unless duties require you to come in early or stay late due to unforeseen circumstances.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.00 - $21.38 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
