GENERAL SUMMARY
The Streets Maintenance Worker will perform general manual labor, maintenance and repairs on City Streets, right-of-way’s, alleys, medians, storm water drainage systems, and retention basins. An employee in this class may have a rotational assignment within the Streets Division or be assigned to other maintenance duties in the City’s Public Work’s Department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents of this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
- Performs service shifts on weekends at city refuge transfer station to include directing disposal of solid waste, green waste, recyclables in correct containers. Must be able to interact with the public, keep accurate and legible records of volume and type of refuse and accurate account of monies charged.
- Performs scheduled maintenance, repair, and service work on City streets, rights-of-ways, alleys, medians, storm water drainage systems, and retention basins
- Performs landscape maintenance on City properties and Right of Ways, to include mowing, trimming and edging; weed and vegetation control, using hand and power tools. Landscape irrigation to include maintenance and/or new installations.
- Semi-skilled in asphalt-concrete repair and replacement; dumps, rakes, spreads, rolls/compacts asphalt; cuts, patches, sets forms, pours/finishes concrete; patches and repairs potholes in road surfaces; applies sealant to road cracks.
- Removes debris, dead animals and other safety hazards from streets, curbs, storm drains, alleys and adjacent public areas.
- Performs general cleaning/maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment, and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing equipment, replacing parts, washing/cleaning equipment, or cleaning shop/work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety.
- Operates heavy equipment from time to time including, but not limited to: skid steer, Gannon, backhoe, front-end loader, trailers, tractors and associated attachments.
- Completes after hours standby services on a rotational basis. This includes responding to all emergency after hour events such as vehicular accidents, storm damage, spills and anything that creates an unsafe condition in the roadway.
- Under supervision, maintains unpaved roadways and shoulders utilizing a Motor Grader and water truck.
- Proactive in identifying traffic hazards, street maintenance needs, erosion issues, citizen concerns and communicating this information through various mediums to the immediate supervisor. As a crew member or individually, paves and patches asphalt, paints traffic control lines, devices, crosswalks, traffic signs and curbs.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- One (1) year of general work experience involving heavy physical labor.
- Must possess a valid Arizona Commercial Driver’s License.
- Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job, may be substituted for evaluation at the discretion of city management.

Knowledge of:
- Basic tools, materials, equipment, techniques and procedures used in general street maintenance and traffic safety work and parks maintenance.
- Utilizing a variety of motorized and power equipment.

- Safe and efficient operation of minor equipment according to standard operating and safety procedures.
- Reading and interpreting maps, technical specifications and operations manuals for equipment.
- Following and effectively communicating verbal and written instructions.

- Use required tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
- Perform a wide variety of unskilled and semiskilled tasks in construction, maintenance and repair of streets and related areas and in traffic safety activities.
