This position is within Code Enforcement division that reports directly to the Manager of Code Enforcement. The employee’s primary function is to provide administrative and clerical support for the Code Enforcement division.
- Handles inquiries from the public concerning zoning and code enforcement violations and directs callers to the manager, division staff members and other appropriate city/BLW employees. Directs difficult complaints to manager
- Schedules appointments for the manager and other staff members
- Performs receptionist’s duties including answering phones and taking complaints
- Prepares and disseminates correspondence and information to citizens and City Manager, with approval from Code Enforcement manager
- Maintains Legistar program, makes copies of ordinances for inspectors, keeps records of deadlines and notifies Inspectors
- Maintains office supplies
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- with GIS division to ensure city/BLW Planning and Zoning data is updated into the GIS database
- Attends and/or participates in substantial number of public meetings concerning planning issues as assigned
- Coordinates activities and provides technical assistance for the Marietta Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, Historic Board of Review and Historic Preservation Commission, as assigned
- Coordinates with State of Georgia, Cobb County, Cobb DOT, and the Atlanta Regional Commission on integrating the city's transportation needs with the state, regional, and county planning efforts
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- High School diploma and at least a minimum of 2 years receptionist and clerical experience to include interaction with the public on a regular basis. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Skill in the use of a personal computer and MS Office Suite software. Ability to type at least 35 wpm with the ability to use other modern office equipment
- Ability to communicate in a professional manner with the public in responding to routine inquiries and requests for information. Must be able to compose written letters and use of proper business English
- Ability to keep records, assemble, organize, date, and prepare reports
- Ability to comprehend and interpret zoning codes as it relates to Code Enforcement
- Ability to plan and organize work
- Ability to use own initiative and judgment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with citizens and City/BLW employees
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, tenants, owners and the general public
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Ability to be flexible in adjusting to regulation changes
