Division Chiefs fill a crucial role within the Marina Fire Department and serves a dual role, fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of both a Battalion Chief and a Division Chief. The Battalion Chief duties mostly provide day to day operational functions that include, but are not limited too, responding to emergencies, providing Incident Command, requesting Mutual Aid and ensuring that our City is always ready to respond to an emergency along with daily risk assessment, accountability and communications. The Division Chief serves as the Duty Chief on a rotating basis and is subject to emergency call while on and off duty. The Division Chief also plans, supervises, and coordinates training activities, oversees project management, and assumes administrative duties as required. The Division Chief also provides highly responsible and complex staff assistance to the Fire Chief. The Division Chief is also subject to staff rotational assignments that include Fire Marshal, Training/Operations, and EMS/Admin/Maintenance staff assignments. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISEDReceive direction from the Fire Chief. This classification exercises supervision of assigned, subordinate and support personnel of the department.

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Researches and recommends department policy.Supervises and coordinates station duties and assignments.Functions as the Fire Marshal, reviewing plans, inspections and providing input into new developments.Oversees department project managers.Works on Emergency Planning and in the Emergency Operations CenterOversees specialized and regular maintenance for department apparatus.Oversees EMS operations and Quality Assurance.Establish, within City policy, appropriate service and staffing levels; monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of the service delivery methods and procedures; allocate resources accordingly as it relates to the needs of the City.Plans, organizes, schedules, conducts, and evaluates the Fire Department’s training program.Develops and oversees maintenance records, documentation of compliance such as SCBA fit testing, Firefighter Drivers Licenses, Hose and Pump test records along with EMT certifications and any other mandated license or certification records. Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of fire suppression, fire prevention, rescue operations and fire investigation.Coordinates specialized drills such as hazardous materials, rescue, and emergency medical services.Coordinates Fire Department’s fire communications radio system including policies and procedures.Directs and conducts fire investigations to determine cause and origin. Manages and coordinates pre-fire planning activities for engine company personnel. Manages and coordinates the Reserve Firefighter Program training. Commands fire department resources on all types of emergencies including the most complex fire, rescue, and hazardous material incidents.May serve as Strike Team Leader or other certified & qualified overhead position.Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.
