Description
DEFINITION : The City of Marshall seeks a detail-oriented and skilled Accountant to join our municipal finance team. This position plays a key role in maintaining the financial integrity of the City, ensuring accurate and timely financial processes. In addition to traditional accounting responsibilities, the Accountant will manage biweekly payroll processing, perform cash reconciliations, oversee accounts receivable functions, and ensure proper oversight and reconciliation of credit card / purchase card transactions.

ESSENTIAL AND RELATED FUNCTION STATEMENTS :
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following :
Payroll Administration :
- Process biweekly payroll for City employees, ensuring accuracy, compliance with local, state, and federal laws, and adherence to municipal policies.
- Maintain employee payroll records, including tax forms, direct deposit information, and deductions.
- Reconcile employee benefits, including health insurance, retirement contributions, and other deductions, to ensure accurate payments and compliance with benefit provider agreements.
- Prepare and file payroll-related reports, including quarterly and annual filings (e.g., 941s, W-2s).
- Address and resolve payroll-related and benefits reconciliation inquiries from employees and management.
