Position Schedule: Tuesday - Friday 6:00 am - 3:30 pm and Saturday 6:00 am - 10:00 am
This position performs a variety of manual labor tasks to assist in the installation, inspection, maintenance, repair, and servicing of municipal facilities, utilities, or City right-of-ways. This position assists with entry level maintenance duties and performs a variety of routine facility, City right-of-way, and/or maintenance activities. Work is usually performed under immediate supervision, although work assignments, which are repetitive in nature, once learned, are performed under general supervision. The incumbents’ work is reviewed frequently.
Examples of Job Duties

1. Assists with general maintenance, installation, inspection, repair, and servicing of municipal utilities, facilities or equipment as assigned.
2. Assists with grounds and right-of-way maintenance duties such as weeding, cutting grass and brush, landscape installation and maintenance, cleaning, painting, litter control and graffiti abatement. May independently perform repetitive work tasks such as manual plant watering, litter control, and graffiti abatement.
3. Uses various hand and power tools such as weed eaters, hedge trimmers, walk behind mowers and back pack blowers.
4. Assists with traffic control situations including flagging and work zone setup for protection of crews and equipment at the jobsite.
5. May be assigned to other divisions performing work requiring similar skills during times of peak work load, labor shortage, emergency situations, or other instances when critical work is to be completed.
6. Accepts guidance, direction, and feedback from others.
Qualifications
Education and Training:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Must possess, or have the ability to possess within one month of hire date, a Washington State Driver’s License.
- Must possess, or have the ability to possess within six months of hire date, first aid and CPR certifications.
- Must possess, or have the ability to possess within six months of hire date, flagger certification.

While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; kneel, bend, or climb and to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee must be able to lift up to 25 pounds on a frequent basis; lift up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis; and lift and/or move between 50 - 100 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
This position regularly works outside in various weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to vibration. The employee may be exposed to physical hazards from mechanical and electrical equipment and may work in hazardous areas under hazardous conditions. The employee occasionally works in traffic, near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee occasionally may be at risk from electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
This position works a regular schedule however the employee may be called to work at irregular times in emergency situations.
