Police officer duties include patrolling for violations of traffic laws, suspicious activities or persons and disturbances of law and order; responding to radio dispatches and answering calls and complaints; operating radar and other specialized equipment; assisting with criminal investigations; preparing detailed reports; operating telecommunications equipment; and performing related tasks as required. Applicant must satisfactorily complete a POST approved Police Academy within one year from the date of employment, meet and maintain minimum standards prescribed by the police department's General Orders and the POST Commission. Requires consent to thorough background investigation, as well as pre-employment physical, psychological and substance abuse screening and evaluation. Must possess a valid driver's license and possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Minimum age 18.
