What are the responsibilities and job description for the Parks-Irrigation Technician position at City of McAllen?
Under general supervision, the Irrigation Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, installation, testing, and troubleshooting anomalies of city irrigation systems while following safety standards. Irrigation systems are composed of sprinkler heads, PVC and metal water lines, pumps, variable frequency drives, pressure regulators, fertigation units, valves, electrical wiring and other components. Irrigation systems are normally buried underground and must be excavated to be maintained. Irrigation technicians should be well versed in using digging / excavation power equipment, such as trenching machines (all types), backhoes, tractors with attachments, shovels, augers, etc. The irrigation technician reports to the irrigation supervisor or manager.
