This position serves as the entry-level role within a structured classification series, providing foundational experience and skill development. It precedes two progressively advanced levels, each offering increased responsibilities, complexity, and leadership opportunities within the series.
Duties and Responsibilities
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.
- Operates and maintains equipment such as pumps, motors, chemical feed systems, and laboratory instruments.
- Determines necessary adjustments to chemical dosages.
- Detects improper equipment operation and reports issues for repair.
- Collects samples, monitors, and records test data.
- Takes daily meter readings for monthly reports.
- Replaces chlorine cylinders and regulates flow.
- Fills chemical containers in the lab and wells.
- Maintains accurate records and logs data into the computer system.
- Conducts routine plant and grounds maintenance.
- Assists other departments as needed.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of all Federal, State and local safety practices and procedures pertaining to Water Plant operation.
- Knowledge of chemical application in treatment/pretreatment practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of laboratory analysis for process control.
- Knowledge of the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment.
- Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
- Skill in or and written communication;
- Skill in planning and meeting deadlines;
- Skill in compiling and analyzing data.
- Ability to detect flaws and defects in the operation of treatment equipment and initiate proper corrective actions.
