The Program Instructor will supervise and facilitate varied youth athletic programs for ages 2.5-17 years old based on seasonal calendar. They will support and assist the Athletics Supervisor in running a controlled and organized activity for participants and parents.
Under the direct supervision of the Athletics Supervisor, program instructor is responsible for working directly with children. They play an integral role in the development of building strong character values in youth. The staff is a representative of the philosophy, mission, and goal of the City of McHenry and its parks and recreation department. Staff must strive to work cooperatively with the Athletics Supervisor and fellow employees to achieve the goals and objectives of the City of McHenry Parks & Recreation department.
Job Duties
DECISION MAKING AND JUDGEMENT
- Responsible for providing diverse program experiences for assigned group
- Develop activities that are age-appropriate and ability to shift focus during class to meet the needs of student dynamics
- Be responsible for maintaining order and discipline within program
- Market programs to other departments & community organizations where youth are present
- Keep program within budget through program development and participant retention
- Be prepared to discuss with a parent any experience a child has during program
- Mentor program aides and delegate tasks to aides resulting in a quality athletic program
- Supervise volunteers while they are working, assist other staff, and follow / enforce policies set forth by supervisor
ADMINISTRATIVE
Will be at your program area and set up 15 minutes prior to start of scheduled activitiesPrepare and administer lesson plans that vary by age, class length, and weekly skill goalHelp develop group schedules and implement new activities to make each session differentBe available for staff meetings, planning periods, and trainings as scheduledKeep program areas clean, neat, and organized to optimize customer satisfactionMaintain inventories and report any equipment problems or needs to the Athletics SupervisorReport any incidents to the Athletics Supervisor and submit written accident report within 24 hoursOverall responsibility for maintaining all class rostersSubmit attendance rosters, timesheets, and evaluations to Athletics Supervisor within 1 week of program ending.SUPERVISION
Responsible for the well-being of youth ages 2.5-17 at your program area while in the care of the City of McHenry Parks & Recreation departmentKeep accurate count of children in program at all timesReport any suspicious behavior or concerns directly to Athletics SupervisorResponsible for selecting, instructing, directing, and supervising the flow of workPHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
