SUMMARY OF POSITION
Under direct supervision of the Assistant Recreation Supervisor, the Assistant Day Camp Counselor plans, organizes and implements various summer camp activities for children six (6) to twelve (12) years old.

Essential Functions/Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This position performs a wide variety of HR duties, which may include assisting the department in the following areas:
- Plans, organizes and implements various summer camp activities for children ages 6 to 12, such as sports, arts and crafts, nature activities, music, drama, field trips and cookouts.
- Under the guidance of a facility Manager on Duty, leads and conducts classes and activities.
- Under the guidance of a facility Manager on Duty, helps supervise children properly and responds immediately during emergencies.
- Assists in control of equipment and supplies.
- Maintains attendance, discipline and other records.
- Effectively communicates with children, parents/guardians, bus drivers, and the public.
- Arrives to work every day, on time as scheduled.
- Sets up and takes down equipment, which may require lifting up to 75 pounds (i.e. ice chests, equipment, etc.).
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Perform other duties as assigned or directed.

- Ability to work holidays, weekends and nights as needed.
- Ability to motivate children and maintain a positive atmosphere, and if necessary, use positive disciplinary techniques.
- Good verbal and written skills.
Required Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the below Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the below specified education and experience requirements.
Prior experience planning, coordinating and implementing recreation programs for children 6 to 12 years old.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Must pass a drug screen and background check.
Physical Demands/Supplemental
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to see, speak, and hear. Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Required to work a majority of time outdoors in extreme heat and occasionally indoor in a climate-controlled building. Duties involve physical exertion such as standing, bending, stooping, crouching, lifting and reaching. Incumbent must be able to work from Monday through Friday.
