SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Public Safety Communications manager is responsible for the administration and management of the City of McKinney’s public safety dispatch center. This position oversees division performance, policy management, regulatory compliance with state and federal legislation, and licensing requirements.GENERAL EXPECTATIONS FOR ALL EMPLOYEES

- Manages and coordinates Emergency Communications Center operations and public safety dispatch activities.
- Leads multiple teams of professional personnel and establishes standard operating procedures governing Communications Center operations.
- Coordinates work schedules to ensure adequate shift coverage, hires and allocates personnel, monitors quality and status of work, and addresses all employee concerns.
- Manages and updates TCOLE and Emergency Medical Dispatch program records reporting to include continuing education mandates and training records.
- Evaluates efficiency and effectiveness of programs, operations, procedures, and resource allocations; implements improvements as needed.
- Develops and implements short-term and long-term goals and objectives for the unit.
- Coordinates and approves training activities for Communications specialists, selects and approves training requests, and ensures adequate training of staff members.
- Responds to questions or complaints related to Communications operations, activities, or personnel.
- Compiles and monitors administrative and/or statistical data pertaining to department operations; analyzes data and identifies trends.
- Oversees operation and maintenance of telephones, computers, and communications equipment associated with public safety communications.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, standards, safety practices, policies, and procedures; initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations.
- Perform other duties as assigned or directed.

- Operate wide range of equipment, e.g. door monitors and locks, printers, voice recorder, intercoms, alarm panel, weather monitoring devices, television monitors, etc.
- Ability to work holidays, weekends and nights as needed.
- Ability to be called in to work on short notice whenever emergent situations or weather require.
- Ability to work in a team environment; contribute as a team member and treat co-workers, subordinates and customers with respect.

Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the below Minimum Qualifications may be an acceptable substitute.
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Emergency Management or other related field. Minimum of five (5) years’ previous experience in management or leadership positions.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Must pass a drug screen and background check.
- Must have Class C Texas Driver’s License
Tasks involve exerting up to ten (10) pounds of force and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
