SUMMARY OF POSITION
Under direct supervision, the purpose of this position is to ensure quality customer service, providing direction to visiting citizens and interfacing with other City employees. 19 hours weekly position.GENERAL EXPECTATIONS FOR ALL EMPLOYEES

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Receives incoming packages for departments, including signing for package and logging information about packages when necessary and notifying appropriate departments of mail received.
  • Performs data entry functions by keying data into computer system: enters, retrieves, reviews or modifies data in computer database; verifies accuracy of entered data and makes corrections.
  • Types correspondence, public relations, record keeping and reports, memoranda, and related materials.  
  • Communicates effectively with the public via telephone and in person; relays messages and instructions efficiently.
  • Complies with all written City policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in City and department attendance policies and procedures.

When Assigned to Visit McKinney
  • Executing opening and closing procedures for office and retail store.  
  • Available to work alternating Saturdays and occasional extend hours for special events.  
  • Functions as a retail sales associate and front-line employee to store customers and visitor center guests.   
  • Creating a welcoming environment by greeting all customers as they walk through the doors with a friendly demeanor, offering product information, and assisting them in finding items.  
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and visually appealing sales floor, including restocking shelves, arranging displays, and ensuring product areas meet merchandising standards.  
  • Operation of the point-of-sale (POS) system, processing payments, handling returns, and managing customer transactions efficiently and accurately.  
  • Assisting in inventory management tasks, including receiving shipments, conducting stock counts, and reporting low stock or product discrepancies to management.  
  • Providing excellent customer service to individuals in person, over the phone, or via email by ensuring the customer takes priority and answering any questions they have.  
  • Maintaining consistent visual merchandising and housekeeping standards at all times.  
  • Keeping knowledge up-to-date of all collections, product information, promotions, and rewards programs at all times  
  • Maintains a working knowledge of the destination’s highways, transportation systems, public and private tourist attractions, recreation areas, events, weather conditions, and accommodations.  
  • Processes requests for information, including stuffing and labeling envelopes/visitors guides, stuffing welcome bags, folding brochures, restocking brochure racks, some data entry, and light office duties.

  • Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; ability to calculate decimals and percentages; ability to utilize principles of fractions; ability to interpret graphs.
  • Requires ability to apply principles of rational systems. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form.  Ability to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.
  • Requires the ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving a variety of generally pre-defined duties which are often characterized by frequent change.
  • Requires the ability to perform skilled coordinated movements, such as operating a computer terminal, printers, fax machine, two-way radios and various office equipment.

  • Offer flexibility and adaptability, especially during times of change.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the below Minimum Qualifications may be an acceptable substitute.

When Assigned to Visit McKinney
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by six (6) months previous experience and/or training involving retail sales, customer service, general office work, receptionist work, and data entry. Hours include a minimum of two Saturdays per month.  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bilingual English / Spanish preferred.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Must pass a drug screen and background check.
  • Must have Class C Texas Driver’s License
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds).  Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.   Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Tasks are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, toxic agents, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances.
